Millersburg, OH (September 21, 2007) David Scott ended a two year Mid-Atlantic Championship Series winless streak in his brand new Rocket Chassis after he held off Steve Shaver for all 50 laps of the ‘Bob Myers Memorial Fall Classic’ in the Series’ first ever appearance at Jeff Norris’ Hilltop Speedway.
Shaver and Scott lead the stout 24-car field to the green with David using the high side to take the lead as the defending MACS champion and current championship points leader Jason Covert made a bold move to go from his sixth starting position to the third spot on the opening lap as Jarod Hawkins and Josh Maguire followed.
The smooth, extra wide surface provided exciting racing as racers were battling side-by-side throughout the field. Shaver intently followed Scott while 22nd starting and local favorite George Lee moved to eighth by the time the first of five cautions flew on lap 27. The ensuing single file restart saw David continue to lead over Shaver, Covert, Doug Drown, and Maguire. After two quick cautions on lap 29 and 32, Scott’s dominance continued as Lee progressed forward and into sixth, now maneuvering his was past Maguire for fifth on the 32nd circuit. After Lee made the pass for fifth, Maguire’s Rayburn Chassis dirt car began to smoke as the fourth caution fell on lap 40 for the slowed car of Alex Ferree. During the caution period, Josh came to a stop in turn two with a broken valve ending his night.
When racing resumed Shaver continued to hound the race leader with Covert and Drown waiting for one of the two leaders to make a mistake. The front runners were nose-to-tail while Rob Blair made a late race charge slicing his way to sixth from his 16th starting slot.
The final caution of the night flew on lap 46 when a rare spin by Rick Auckland in turn four set up a four lap dash to the finish. "Slow Ride" was near perfect on his restarts and held on to the lead to the end with Shaver, Covert, Drown still in pursuit, with Lee up from 22nd. 2004 MACS Champion Rob Blair finished sixth from 16th followed by Scott Peltz, Rod Conley, Jarod Hawkins and Corey Conley all advancing from mid pack.
