2008 Pure Stock Rules

 

REMEMBER  this is a Pure Stock Division intended for safe, inexpensive participation. 
Abuse of these rules or “creative interpretation” to excess will not be tolerated.
All feature winners must pass technical inspection before going to victory lane.

All race cars subject to inspection by Technical Inspector at any time during the racing events. Window Nets are Mandatory.

CAR
Any American made car, no sports cars, convertibles or two seat coupes.
NO FRONT WHEEL DRIVE

WHEEL BASE
Must have a factory stock wheel-base of at least 104 inches. 

BODY
Must be stock appearing, after market bodies allowed.
Late Model style bodies not allowed .
Cutting on body for tire clearance will be allowed and may remove inner fenders.
All exterior trim and molding must be removed.

Body must match engine manufacturer: Ford-to-Ford, GM-to-GM.
No spoilers allowed - stock or aftermarket.

RUB RAILS
Rub rails no bigger than 1 x 2 may be attached to body from fender well to fender well.

DOORS
All doors must be riveted, bolted, or welded shut.
There must be at least 3 bars in the driver and 2 in the passenger doors.


BUMPERS
The area between the trunk lid and rear bumper must be closed off with solid metal or aluminum. Bumpers must be fastened to fenders or quarter panels (tied in).
Aftermarket nose and tail pieces will be permitted, however, these nose pieces must be mounted
in such a manner that the nose of the car appears unaltered, and fits the rest of the cars body
with bumper behind nose piece.
No Late Model or wedge type nose pieces.
All cars will be equipped with front and rear tow hooks. The tow hooks must be strong
enough to support the weight of the car, and be easily accessible by track personnel.


APPEARANCE
Car must be neat in appearance, body damage must be repaired,
and hood and trunk must be removable for inspection.

INTERIOR
Interior must be completely gutted. All window openings must remain open. Front STOCK firewall must be maintained, and in original STOCK location.  No alterations to original front firewall will be permitted, other than patching for safety reasons. Must have a complete stock front firewall all the way across car (fender to fender) . Sheet metal extensions may be used to reach to side body panels. Rear firewall must be completely sealed from side to side. Must have steel floor pan from firewall to the rear of the driver’s seat on both sides of car. Stock style transmission tunnel & drive shaft tunnel mandatory. May have aluminum from the back of the drivers seat to/and including the back firewall as long as the aluminum is the same thickness as the steel in the front floor pan.

SEAT
A properly mounted racing style seat must be used.
Drivers seat may be no further back than original quarter post.

INTERIOR - SHEET METAL

The only sheet metal allowed in the drivers area is straight up at an angle from the bottom
of the drivers seat to the bottom of the passenger window and from the back of the seat
to the rear window area.
No "cockpits".


ROLL CAGE
Must have minimum of six post design roll cage using 1-1/2 by .095 wall minimum round tubing.
The cage must be welded to the frame of the car in a minimum of six locations,
extend at least 2 inches above drivers head,
and include 3 bars (door bars) on the driver’s side,
2 bars (door bars) on the right side,
a bar connecting the front post immediately above or below the steering column,
and rear supports from the back top of the cage to the rear frame of the cage behind the rear axle.
All bars near the driver must be covered with padding.

INTRUSION PLATE
An intrusion protection plate must be on the outside of the bars (inside the body skin)
using MINIMUM 1/8 steel, or MINIMUM 1/4 aluminum. Plating to cover the entire door area
from the frame rail to the top door bar, and front post to rear post.


SEAT BELTS
The use of at least a five point seat belt system including a crotch belt is required.
The system is to be mounted to the frame and not to the floor pan.
The mounts must be run at the same direction, as the belts are intended to secure the driver.
The belt webbing must be protected from any sharp cutouts
in the sheet metal or any other sharp edges.
The date on the belt must not exceed 3 years.
Seat belt webbing that comes into contact with any sharp or unradiused metal edge
must be protected from that edge by means of push on grip vinyl trim.
The areas of concern are the webbing slots in the metal racing seats.
All the seat manufacturers either roll the edge or supply the seat with trim
protecting the webbing from abrasion or cutting under impact conditions.
Webbing entry slots into the seat with an existing metal roll of one eighth inch (1/8”)
smooth radius will not require vinyl trim.
The areas where the webbing slot has been enlarged
by filing or cutting are of particular concern.
In most instances the edges have been left sharp, increasing the incidence of belt failure.
As racing seat belts are subjected to severe conditions, it is encouraged that worn / frayed
belts are replaced immediately and undamaged belts are replaced every 24 months.
The date sewn into the webbing should be used as a guide.
Damaged belts will also not be permitted.


BATTERY

If the battery is mounted in the driver’s compartment it must be securely mounted
and covered in a manner that will not allow it to leak or dislodge in an accident.

DRIVE SHAFT and LOOP
A drive shaft loop is required and must be at least ¼ x 2 steel or ¼ chain and should be
mounted no more than 6 inches back from front of drive shaft. Drive shaft must be painted white.

FUEL CELL and LINES
Approved fuel cell required must be securely fastened in the trunk of car to the frame or cage.
If fuel lines are run through inside of car, they must be inside of conduit.


WINDOWS
Must have 3 bars minimum in front window area in front of driver’s head,
screen optional but driver’s side window net is mandatory. No glass.

CHASSIS / FRAME
No Late Model, Modified, or Tubular Chassis allowed!
Full Frame or uni-body cars are allowed.  

A: Full Frame Cars:
All frame sections must remain completely stock to the center of the rear axle.
No "X" bracing of lower frame rails allowed.     
Tubing is allowed around motor for safety and body mounting purposes.
From the center of the rear axle to the back of the car tubing may be used.
   

B: Uni-body Cars:
Must be tied together with 2 x 2 minimum square or rectangle tubing.
Tubing is allowed around motor for safety and body mounting purposes.
From the center of the rear axle to the back of the car tubing may be used.


CHASSIS and FRAME REPAIRS
May use tubing for reinforcement and repair of original frame.
If a section of the stock frame is cut out it must be replaced with a stock piece of frame.


STEERING AND SUSPENSION
Steering must be factory O.E.M. No rack and pinion steering .
Steering box must be O.E.M.
Steering box must remain within original bolt pattern of frame used.
Tie rod ends and adjustment sleeves must be stock O.E.M. .
Quick release hub and steering quickener are allowed.
Front suspension type must match factory rear suspension type.
(Camaro front clip = rear leaf springs, Monte Carlo front clip = rear coil springs, ect.)

FRONT
Front suspension must be unaltered O.E.M. and in stock location and must be
replaceable by stock parts from same type suspension.
Stock passenger car spindles only, no fabricated spindles.
Bottom A-frames can not be changed or moved.
Shocks do not have to be in stock locations.
Only 1 shock per wheel.
Stabilizer bar is o.k.
May use steel bushings in control arms.
Fixed non-adjustable tube type upper control arms are allowed in stock location .
Upper a-arm mounts must be stock and not moved from stock location .
Strengthening of stock type a-arms are allowed .
Weight jacks are optional.


REAR
Rear suspension must be stock.
Original equipment stabilizer bar is o.k.
No added lift arms or push-bars allowed.
No upper torque links or pan-hard bars allowed.
5 inch coil springs or leaf springs only - no coil covers.
No late model, pro stock, semi late, limited late, or modified style frames will be allowed.
Weight jacks are optional.

Reinforcing bolt holes ok

REAR-END
Any OEM passenger car type, or truck type rear ends may be used
No aluminum after market rear-ends allowed.
Floaters ARE permitted.
Ford nine-inch rear ends are allowed to be used in all brands of cars,
but must use stock suspension mounts in stock location.

TRANSMISSION
STOCK automatic, 3, 4, OR 5 SPEED transmissions only!
Aftermarket torque converters are allowed with automatics.
Multi-disk mini clutches are allowed with standard transmissions.
No racing transmissions such as Brinn, Bert, or aftermarket racing automatic's.
When the clutch pedal is pushed in the car must not move.
When the clutch is left out the car must move.
NO "in & out" boxes or direct drives.

BRAKES
Must have 4 wheel brakes and lock up during inspection.
Stock type disc brakes may be used but no aluminum or racing style
calipers or rotors may be used.
No shut off devices allowed.
Brake bias adjusters allowed.


TIRES AND WHEELS
8-inch racing tires only.
8-inch steel wheels only and all wheels must have 9/16 or better wheel studs.
Must run oversized lug nuts.
No snow tires, recaps, or doughnuts allowed.
No wide 5 wheels allowed.
Bead lock wheels are allowed on all four wheels


ENGINE
No cubic inch limit on engine.
The engine must have a working starter and a stock type ignition (no magnetos).
Radiator must be in the stock location.
No dry sump systems permitted.
Aftermarket distributors and / or aftermarket ignition boxes are permitted.


ALIGNMENT
The engine must be in stock location. NO EXCEPTIONS

BLOCK AND HEADS
Block and heads must be cast iron.
Anyone caught using aluminum heads or aluminum block will lose all monies won that night,
all points accumulated for the year and 2 week suspension,
will not be allowed to race again until that persons engine has been inspected by a track inspector,
the night that the driver is permitted to return after their suspension.
If caught again with illegal parts,
one year suspension from date of infraction.

INTAKE and CARBURETORS
Either of these combinations will be legal: 
One unaltered Holley 4412 2bbl. carb with low-rise aluminum intake manifold.
 Removal of choke plate (not air horn) is permitted.
Carburetors will be checked with tech tools.


OR 

One 4bbl. carb with low-rise stock style CAST IRON intake manifold. 
Must Pass Inspection.
No adapters, spacer plates, etc. with a combined thickness of more than
1-1/4 permitted with either combination

FUEL
Gasoline / racing fuel only, no alcohol or other fuel types allowed.
No electric or belt driven fuel pumps.

HEADERS
Headers are allowed.

MUFFLERS
Mufflers are required.
MAXIMUM decibel level permitted is 100 db at ninety feet (90').
Exhaust is NOT permitted to be directed towards ground.
Exhaust MUST be parallel to the ground.

CONDITION AND APPEARANCE

All cars must be in good operational condition, presentable
in appearance and in general safe condition.
All racecars are subject to judgment of the inspection officials.
No wings or tunnels of any type permitted under the car.

NUMBER APPEARANCE

Car numbers must be a minimum of 18” high on the car doors and roof.
Do not use reflective colors.
Do not spray paint numbers on.
Duplicate numbers are not permitted.
Drivers are responsible for making sure that the numbers are legible for scorekeeping.

SAFETY
All drivers must wear an approved fire suit, one or two piece suits are allowed.
It must be in good condition.
An approved full-face helmet, racing approved fire resistant gloves and shoes.
HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINTS ARE REQUIRED
(HANS device, Hutchens Device, or horse collar type are approved).
Racing Shoes are highly recommended .
A driver’s side window net is required .
A minimum of one (1) 2 lb. fully charged , properly mounted and easily accessible (by the driver)
fire extinguisher is required. All exterior trim and molding must be removed.

WEIGHT RULE
Car must weigh minimum of 3,000 pounds including driver after any race.

ELECTRONICS
No radios or other communication devices are permitted.
No “in-cockpit driver controlled” electronic devices of any kind permitted.
No computer controlled devices of any kind permitted.

TRACTION CONTROL
(A) Use of any type of traction control is absolutely forbidden in any event. in other words,
any device, controlled by mechanical, electrical, and/or computer is considered traction control .
No data gathering or recording devices. No cockpit or driver controlled ignition timing or fuel delivery devices.

(B) Hilltop Speedway officials may inspect any car they suspect could be benefitting from the
use of traction control devices at any time. Driver/crew of car called to be inspected are expected to cooperate (in a sportsman-like manner) with inspector/s; and may be required to jack up car,
remove wheels, panels/covers, and install jack stands to make safe the inspection process.
Failure to cooperate with inspector/s will be considered an indictment of guilt on the competitors part, and competitor will be found in violation of this rule. No exceptions.
No follow up inspection for this violation.

(C) Hilltop Speedway maintains the right to confiscate any part /s they suspect as traction control from any car, at any time, for as long as it would be necessary to determine if said part /s is or is not classified as an illegal traction control device. If device is found to be legal, device will be returned
as soon as practicable to owner. If part/s are found to be illegal , part /s are sacrificed to
Hilltop Speedway.

(D) Any Hilltop Speedway competitor (driver) whose car illegal part/s were found shall be found in violation of stated rules and will sacrifice any points accumulated to date that season and shall not be eligible for any point fund and/or contingency money/awards possibly due that season.

PASSENGERS
No one shall be allowed to ride on or in the car as a passenger on the track at any time.

**NOTE**
Any car, which is determined to be unsafe, for any reason, by Track Officials, will not be allowed
to participate in any event at Hilltop Speedway until required modifications are made.


CARBURETOR CLAIM RULE

For Pure Stock Car division only:
A carburetor can be claimed in the Pure Stock for $300.00.
You must claim the carburetor at the Pit Office prior to the feature start.
Payment of $300.00 in cash only must be paid at time of claim.
Claim will be announced after the feature.
The driver accompanied by the Pit Technician will remove and deliver the carburetor to
the Pit Office before the driver picks up his winnings for the night.
The driver claiming the carburetor can pick up his carburetor from
track personal at the end of the evening.
If the driver being claimed refuses to sell his carburetor that race night,
he will forfeit his points and purse for that night.
There will also be a $100.00 fine paid to Hilltop Speedway before the driver
being claimed is allowed to participate .
Once you have made a claim on a carburetor you will lose your $300.00 if you change your mind.
There will only be one claim per race night.
If more than one person wants to claim a carburetor, there will be a pill draw to determine
who can claim a carburetor that night.
The lowest number will be allowed to claim the carburetor.
Only Pure Stock drivers racing in the feature that night can claim a carburetor that night.

DISCLAIMER
Hilltop Speedway reserves the right to change and/or alter rules and procedures at any time.
Any variation from these rules will be done in the interest of safety and fair competition.
The rules and/or regulations set forth herein do not express or imply warranty of safety, from publication of, or, compliance with these rules and/or regulations.
They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the Hilltop Speedway events
and are in no way a guarantee against injury to participants.

These rules and/or regulations will apply to all Hilltop Speedway racing events.

Designated officials of Hilltop Speedway have full authority over racing events.
In the event of any on track dispute the Head Flagman’s decision will be final.

Decisions of Hilltop Speedway officials and promoters pertaining to the interpretation
of rules that affect race procedures, and scoring of positions shall be final.
