Myers Mulches Hilltop Turf

Millersburg Ohio - This Friday night on the Hilltop race fans saw a little less dust, fantastic multi groove racing,
a lot less controversy, and all their favorite drivers in action with one first time feature winner and another
“by a nose” Dutch Country Stone Super Late Model finish. Eric Myers of nearby Holmesville made an incredible charge from his twelfth place starting position, fought his way around some of the best in the business before pulling alongside the race leader and stealing the win under the flag stand. Myers carries sponsorship from
Colored Recycled Mulch, Cyco Custom Race Products, Advance Cylinder, and Morris Oil. In other racing action
years of trying finally paid off for Jesse Combs as he scored a career first feature win behind the wheel of his Troyers Trail Bologna Mini Truck bringing cheers from the fans, pits and track employees.

 

 

A total of 24 Super Late Models checked in that included Sprint standout Dean Jacobs behind the wheel of
DJ Millers machine. Heat races were taken by Rick Aukland and Norm Aronhalt with Ryan Markham best
in the fast dash. Always adding lots of excitement, race fans were very disappointed to see Doug Drown
drop from action due to unexpected drive train problems. The late model feature began with Markham and
Rick Bond on the front row with Bond taking the early lead. Scott Peltz and Rick Aukland begin a charge and overtake Corey Conley for fifth as lapped traffic comes into play. Paint was traded and the resulting yellow flag
had fourth running Norm Aronhalt exit competition with damage and Aukland sent to the tail. Racing back underway Bond was busy holding off Markham and George Lee and totally unaware that Eric Myers had quietly worked his way into the top five. Markham made several plays on Bond but fell to George Lee as the result,
then to Myers as well. Myers and Lee then completed a full lap side by side battling for second with Myers
taking the point and carrying his momentum into the final corner to pull alongside and ahead of Rick Bond
by a nose under Ed Frederick’s checkered flag for his second career Hilltop feature win. Along with his sponsors Myers thanked Jim and Kyle Figley for their years of help, and Mike Lonas for coming onboard and his team contribution.

The green flag waved the Eddleblutes Garage Modifieds into action and the result of a wild scramble for position required several cars needing untangled in the first corner. Once racing resumed all eyes were on a
hard charging Mark Gardiner as he fired from his fifth starting spot and took the lead from Rick Aukland
in only a few laps, however that charge ended with a flat tire and many disappointed race fans. With Aukland
back in the lead Norm Aronhalt gives chase as Kevin Morehouse and Barry Jacobs fight for position with
Jacobs eventually claiming third. Aukland uses lapped traffic to increase his lead but a late race caution
tightens the field and the restart sees Aronhalt jump into the lead only to be called back with another caution.
Not to be taken by surprise again Aukland made a very rare mistake and got on the gas before the green and
was penalized two positions handing the lead back to Aronhalt. Running second Jacobs could now see victory
and pulled alongside Aronhalt going into the final corner but the Everharts Auto Inc. - Twarog Racers sponsored Phantom 309 of Aronhalt was unstoppable and claimed a third feature win already this season. Jacobs held for second, followed by Morehouse and Aukland with Bruce Miller in the top five after starting fourteenth.

The American Payroll Advance Pure Stocks rolled onto the track next and Brandon Gardner led the distance
to claim his second win on the year. Travis Mensching challenged Gardiner throughout the race but settled for second followed by another hard charger, John Swinehart, up from ninth. Track champ Fred Snyder finished
fourth and Donna Canode filled in the top five. Gardner and Mensching won the heats.

 

 

Terry Adkins is the man to beat in the Holmes Tire Inc. Mini Stocks as he won both his heat and the featured event. Steve Miller and Travis Gray also won heats and the main event top five included Adkins, Miller, Charley Ray,
Tom Ogle, and Dustin Hostetler. It was determined illegal parts were used in last weeks mini stock feature winners car, and the win reverted to Dale Beckett Jr. Completing the nights races Jesse Combs lead the distance to claim
a career first Troyers Trail Bologna Mini Truck feature win over a very fast Bill Kutz who finished in second place after starting on the tail. Chaz Odell, Tom Garlick, and Jerry Gardner complete the top five.
