Aronhalt Takes Hilltop By Storm
Sunday, July 29, 2007

Millersburg Ohio – Norm Aronhalt of Warsaw Ohio kept his hot streak alive with a
sweeping performance this past Sunday afternoon at Hilltop Speedway. Beginning
with a heat win in the Modifieds and first in the Late Model fast dash, followed
by featured event wins in both is definitely a highlight to this veteran racers career.
Aronhalt led flag to flag in the Late Model main and drove from an eighth starting
position to win the extra monied Modified feature. On the championship trail,
Stormin' Norm holds nine Modified and two Late Model feature wins on the season.

The night got off to a good start for invader Shon Flanery of Mt. Carmel Tennessee after he won
the first heat race along with Norm Aronhalt and Rob Melzer, with Rory Reed claiming the fast dash
over David Lyle. When the green flag waved on the main event Lyle quickly took the lead point from
Reed and pulled away by several lengths. Jesse Wardell would then move up to challenge and take
second from Reed and also set up a fierce battle between Reed and Jeff Staggers. A slip in turn two
would allow Reed to regain third but this also caused many cars to check up and Flanery to spin ending
his chance for a win. Another caution followed with a six car pileup that eliminated Brandon Morrow and damaged others. Once back to green Aronhalt resumes his charge from eighth and picks off Reed, Wardell, then race leader David Lyle before the half way point. Using the outside groove Aronhalt
pulled several lengths from Lyle but picked up a miss in his engine before the white flag allowing
Lyle to close in and pull alongside, but the Phantom 309 came back to life on the back stretch and
easily recorded the win.

In preliminary action Shon Flanery outran Chris Basich to the finish line, Rob Melzer and Darrick Hubbard had an awesome
race going but Rob was more than happy to pose with the checkers. Don Lewis and Kris McCombs caught some bad breaks
in the heat and raced their way through the consy and into the main event where both had great runs.

3 wide down the backstretch Josh Morrow was off to a great start with Aronhalt and Flanery giving chase

Two of Hilltops most fierce competitors, Jesse Wardell on the outside and Rory Reed find themselves door to door again.

Don Baney -

1st Hilltop Pure Stock Feature Win

Although Aronhalt led the Late Model feature from the start, behind the action was intense between
Dave Hornikel, George Lee, and Rocky Owens, all running in that order. With laps winding down
Hornikel slips high in turn four and positions traded with Owens coming out of the scramble momentarily in second before George Lee could gather up and retake that spot and Hornikel now fading fast.
Freddie Carpenter and Jeremy Canada advance to bump him out of the top five with more positions traded just under the white flag when Canada passes Carpenter for fourth and Owens gets around Lee
for second. The Pure Stock feature saw front row starters Don Baney and Donna Canode race side by side for the first couple of laps before Baney secured the lead and went on for his first ever Hilltop feature win. Tom Ogle wrestled the early Mini Stock lead away from Chase Alexander then battled the remainder of the race with Charlie Ray before pulling into victory lane for the second time this year.
Even with a punctured radiator Bill Kutz was not to be denied a Mini Truck feature win on this night against the toughest field ever at Hilltop at 14 trucks strong.

A pair of 9's started the feature side by side
but only one would lead the first lap

Keith Tish leads Willie Coblentz and Don Rambler
three wide down the back chute

No shortage of 3 wide Pure Stock action, this time with
Harold Duncan, Fred Snyder, and Bill Goerz

Mini Stocks do it too ! Dustin Hostetler,
Jordan James, and Tom Ogle fight for position
