Aukland and Conley Dominate
by Ken Cunningham

MILLERSBURG OH, Aug. 25 - The domination of Rick Aukland and Corey Conley continued this Friday night at Hilltop Speedway with Aukland taking the Late Model feature and Conley winning the Modified main.To date Aukland holds four Modified wins and three in his Late Model with one sweep on the night. Conley has four Late Model wins, three Modified wins including the prestigious Jack E. Norris AMRA Road Warrior Tour date and two sweeps between the two divisions. Despite their record Hilltop remains very challenging and competitive with strong local competition along with a wide array of top regional visitors every week.

As the season begins to wind down a great Late Model points race is shaping up with the claim of being Hilltops first Champion on the line, Ryan Markham of Ashland is determined to claim that title. Of fourteen completed races Markham has compiled 3 wins and an amazing 10 top five finishes on the season, only once out of the top ten and never missing a race. Next in points and enjoying a great season is Mark Gardiner of Massillon Ohio. Utilizing a hand me down Rocket Chassis and home built power Gardiner has several fast times and a regular in the fast dash. Although Gardiner hasn't seen a checkered flag yet this season he has not missed a feature with 6 top five finishes. Tied for third is Blaine Aber and Eric Myers with Ty Myers and J.R. Gentry both within striking distance. Season Championship races will be held on Sept. 22.

Back to racing, the Late Model feature saw Doug Drown briefly battle Rick Aukland for the early lead but a busted tire ended Drowns night. George Lee then took up the battle but was kept busy holding off a very fast Eric Myers. Aukland scored the win followed by Lee, Myers, Gentry and Markham. Next up the All Star Midgets took center stage with 14 Mini Sprints on hand. Kirk Jeffries of Columbus has taken a liking to Hilltop Speedway and was first under the checkers for his second win here this year. The Modifieds never fail to thrill at Hilltop and Charlie Duncan added to this weeks show by claiming fast time behind the wheel of the Tom Conley owned # 27. Jesse Wisecarver won the fast dash and the right to start on the pole next to Cory Conley outside. Action thru the field but all eyes up front as Wisecarver and Conley swapped the lead over and over with neither backing down. The race wasn't decided until the final corner with Conley first, Wisecarver second, followed by Allan Baker, Kevin Morehouse, and making a great comeback after being over the hill, Kevin Potts. In Pure Stock action Dave Haven Sr. was awarded his first feature win after a very eventful race and Chaney Beagle scored the Mini Stock main.
