ooMayhem on the Hilltop
ooooooooooooooJune 1, 2007

Millersburg Ohio – It was total mayhem under a full moon as forty of the areas best Modified drivers chased after a $1200 first place prize offered by Hilltop Speedway, Lias Tire, and American Racers. When the dust finally settled an 18 year old race car driven by Barry Jacobs pulled into victory lane to celebrate with a very happy crew. Jacobs and his vintage #88 battled Jesse Wardell during the early stages and had to hold off a hard charging Kyle Brown during the latter stages before winning his first feature event at Hilltop. Jacobs carries sponsorship from Danny’s Auto Center and Central Ohio Fabricators with Mike Loveland and Jesse Jacobs turning wrenches. In Late Model action, George Lee and Doug Drown had every fan on the edge of their seats as the two powered wide open into the fourth corner, last lap, and side by side with Lee first for the win. Travis Mensching also won his first
Hilltop Pure Stock feature, Terry Adkins won the Mini Stock feature, and Dave Caskey won an action filled Mini Truck main.

The Eddleblutes Garage sponsored Modifieds headlined tonights second annual “Modified Mayhem” and Ken Riddle blistered the track to set fast time at 15.873 seconds around the high banked 1/3 mile before winning the
fast dash under the flag stand over Jesse Wardell from dead last. Taking preliminary wins were Kyle Brown, Brandon Morrow, Allan Baker, and Kevin Morehouse. The green flag waved on the main event and Riddle
continued strong with an early lead but two cautions slowed progress and problems brought the night to an end
for Riddle. Jesse Wardell inherited the top spot with Barry Jacobs in hot pursuit, close behind Brandon Morrow
and Jess Hartman were back and forth and Kyle Brown begins to advance from a seventh place starting position. Jacobs takes the lead from Wardell after a two lap side by side battle and Norm Aronhalt stepped up his pace to
pass Allan Baker, then Morrow to break into the top five. Action everywhere as Hartman passes Morrow and Brown passes them both. Just past halfway and Brown takes over second place and goes after Jacobs, the two raced side by side for several laps and just as the two smacked doors and Brown was sure to take the lead the Phantom 309 driven by Norm Aronhalt goes up in smoke and Jesse Wardell also retired to the pits. Back under green and Jacobs maintains his lead over Brown, followed to the checkers by Jess Hartman, Allan Baker, and Brandon Morrow.

Under normal circumstances this Modified race would be a tough act to follow, however the extremely talented
field of Dutch Country Stone Late Models at Hilltop are anything but normal. Eric Myers and Corey Conley scored heat wins and Doug Drown, Charlie Duncan, and Ryan Markham finished a thrilling fast dash in that order. The feature goes green and Drown jumped into the lead with Duncan and Markham in hot pursuit, further back
George Lee is on the fly from sixth starting position around all but Drown. A pileup in turn 2 occurred just as
Drown approached lapped traffic and a few good cars were forced into early retirement. Back to green flag racing and already three wide it’s Drown first, then Lee moves into first as Ryan Markham enjoys the show. If anyone
was watching further back Eric Myers, Corey Conley, Rocky Owens, and Keith Berner were all battling for a top position when a yellow waved for a lone spinner. With the race drawing near the end Drown was scored the lead, then Lee scored the leading lap and it was anybody’s race going into the last lap. George Lee went high, Drown down low as they entered the final corner side by side and neither lifting, “The General” George Lee used his momentum to take the lead and power his Cowen Truck Lines sponsored Super Late Model to a third feature
win this season.

The American Payroll Advance Pure Stocks were fully charged and ready to give race fans another exciting show that began with Fred Snyder and Travis Mensching on the front row and at the drop of the green side by side for several laps with more battles occupying the entire field. Mensching took over the lead with John Swinehart
getting the better of Denny Shear, and Dave Haven Sr., Willy Coblentz, Donny Rambler, and Donna Canode all scrambling for position before the checkers. The Holmes Tire LLC Mini Stocks provided a fast and furious feature event that saw Terry Adkins decimate the field followed by a hard charging Josh Hershberger, Charlie Ray,
Jason Theil, and Dusty Lint. The Troyers Trail Bologna Mini Trucks began their show with a scary moment when
Tim McCloskey made hard contact with the front stretch wall but emerged from the wreckage unharmed. The following laps it was all business as Dave Caskey held off Brandon Craver to take the win.

Join us next week for the finest Super Late Model action to be found in Northeast Ohio along with all your favorite dirt track racers and don't forget, 410's and Speedweek is fast approaching !
